The AFSA is an international organization which consists of over 135,000 men and women dedicated to preserving and enhancing the quality of life and work for all Air Force Enlisted personnel through grassroots legislative efforts at all levels of government. The association serves ALL Air Force enlisted personnel - active duty, guard, reserve, retired and their families.
We are known as the "Kill Devil Hill" chapter. The name comes from the hill where the Wright Brothers Monument now stands, in the Outer Banks township of Kill Devil Hills. Various stories abound regarding the origin of the "Kill Devil Hill" name, but the one that is generally accepted is named for "Kill Devil," a brand of rum found washed ashore during the colonial period.
Chapter 371 is based in the Seymour Johnson Air Force Base and Goldsboro, North Carolina area, but we service all of eastern NC. Our chapter is 900+ members strong, made up of, Air Force Enlisted men and women on active duty assigned to the ' 4th But 1st' Fighter Wing (FW), the reservists of the 916th Air Refueling Wing (ARW), and the retirees here in eastern NC from I-95 to the Outer Banks. Our enlisted members range in rank from the newest Airman Basic to the Command Chief Master Sergeant. We also have commissioned support from many levels up to the Commanders of both the 4th Fighter Wing and 916th Air Refueling Wing. The two Wings co-exist on Seymour Johnson Air Force Base and play a major role in the defense of our nation.
As I mentioned earlier, we have a very dynamic chapter. Our chapter members are involved in normal AFSA activities such as legislative awareness and annual award programs, but are also involved on a more personal basis at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base and within the Goldsboro and Eastern North Carolina communities.
On Seymour Johnson AFB, we are involved in many ways. Just to name a few, 'Team 371' members......
In the Goldsboro and Eastern North Carolina community, we are just as active. 'Team 371' members.....
We have a great local chapter and work hard to help the base and community. Our Membership meetings are the first Thursday of every month at the Shady 'J' Enlisted Club, Top 3 Lounge, Seymour Johnson AFB. The meetings operate from 1130-1230 hours and a great lunch is available.
I encourage you to find out more about AFSA activities, here at our chapter and our website, and through us - find out what is transpiring in our nation's capitol. AFSA is a vital association to the Air Force Enlisted, ANG, AFRES , Retirees and our families. Our members recognize AFSA is a powerful organization, well-respected on the Hill, that continues lobbying to improve our Air Force benefits and monitor our representatives on Capitol Hill. We hope you do too.
Finally, as we continue to right-size our Total Force and stand ready to defend our nation, we also continue to ensure that our families, quality of life, and entitlements are secure. This is why the members of Chapter 371 are so active, this is why membership in AFSA is important, ... and that is why...we need you!
Sincerely,
President, Chapter 371
